The city of Lezha is located about 47 km on the south side of the city of Shkodra. Lezha is one of the ancient cities of Albania and in historical documents it is mainly referred to as Lissus. In 1398, after the construction of its castle, the city was under the direct control of the feudal family of Lekë Dukagjini, but was finally conquered by Venice. One of the most important historical events for Lezha and indeed for all of Albania was the famous "Lezha link" on 2 March 1444, where under the leadership of the national hero Scanderbeg, the Albanian princes united against the Ottomans. The Skanderbeg Memorial Tomb is here, in the former St. Koller's Cathedral, where he was buried in 1468.

The castle of Lezha, another Illyrian monument, is located on top of the hill overlooking the city below. Within the castle are the ruins of an Ottoman mosque.

Only a few minutes from the city, at the foot of Rrenc Mountain, is the sandy beach of Shengjin. In Shengjin there are many hotels, restaurants and residential houses, which have increased the capacity and have greatly improved the conditions for many holidaymakers.

Visit Shengjin for the sun, for the sandy sea, for the rare beauties that nature has given to the hospitable and sociable inhabitants. The broad strip of clean sand, on the one hand, is bordered by the sea and on the other hand with the rare forest with pine and other trees. A narrow, sandy strip of vegetation divides the shallow coastal waters with the lagoons.

Shengjin has been opened too recently either as a beach, but also as a port with a perspective. The connection of Shengjin to Lezha has always been vital, both as an economy and development, as a link to other cities, as well as beach and history.

The variety of fish and bird species has also made their cooking style change and grow qualitatively. However, the best traditional cooking remains in all the premises and hotels of the area.

About 38 kilometers of coastline, mountains, rivers and lagoons, history, archeology and a rich cultural heritage ... Lezha can offer it all in a complete tourist package.

The combination of seaside, historical and natural tourism and rich culinary make Lezha a destination for perennial tourism.

A bit of history

Lezhë Castle is a remarkable historical monument located upon a hill looking over the city of Lezhë, in the northern part of Albania. The highest point of the castle is 186 meters high. The castle itself originates from the Illyrian years. In the year 1440 it was reconstructed by the Venetians, and then, in the year 1522, after the Ottoman conquest, it was also rebuilt by the Ottomans. The castle bears many traces of Illyrian, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman architecture. Interesting places to visit are the ruins of the Ottoman buildings inside the castle, the mosque, the tower of the south-eastern wall with a Roman arch, and the Illyrian tower on the southern wall. The castle in Lezhë is a cultural monument. The hill on which the castle is offers a beautiful view of the Lezha country side and the Adriatic Sea. The view is even better, if you choose a clear day, the area in which the castle is located is almost always windy. There is a lot of work to be done to the castle and to the ruins inside, but you can still get the atmosphere of the olden years.
